The health care team plays a vital role in addressing human trafficking in our communities. Studies have shown that approximately 88% of sex trafficking victims had contact with a health care professional. Each of these contacts is an opportunity for identifying and assisting a victim.
Let's not miss this opportunity!
The scope of human trafficking is already immense. Additionally, both our country and our world are facing wide spread crisis, such as the recent pandemic, wars, conflicts, and climate change, all of which can lead to an expansion of human trafficking. Thus, it's imperative that health care teams be trained to effectively address this horrendous situation.
The time is now.
It's great to meet you! I'm a Certified Nurse Midwife, and have provided care to patients from all different backgrounds and in a variety of health care settings. My practice has included a focus on getting to the heart of the matter, potentially identifying underlying hidden issues impacting my patient's health. Understanding my patient's truth has allowed them to be better served.
From this approach, my passion for addressing the horrific and often hidden issue of human trafficking evolved. I've completed the SAFE International Anti-Human Trafficking Certification Training Program and continue to work extensively to bring awareness to this issue, as well as provide strategies and solutions.
I look forward to working with you all on effectively addressing this issue in our health care settings, in a variety of other work environments, and in our communities.
